Leave a Trace: Writing about your Life

Share your ideas for this new group!
Your ancestors will live forever as long as you teach their stories.
--Natives Speak Truths
We all know how to leave no trace in the wild, but we want to - and must - leave a trace for our offspring and descendants. This realization has inspired Larry Dean and Steve Fernlund to start a "Writing about your life" group here in Cook County.
As Larry and Steve discussed forming this group, they knew they wanted to focus on retired folks with many memories and past events floating in their heads - "What the ancients call wisdom," Larry says. "There are so many people our age with good reflections to pass on to the next generation”
Committing those memories and thoughts to paper (or computer) is an exceptional gift to give our children and grandchildren. Those reflections may even prove to be immensely useful for historians to come.
This gathering won't be a typical "writing group." There is no intention to be the grammar or punctuation police, only a group of advisors and friends willing to help and support each other as they get a part of their life stories written down.
An organizational meeting will be held at The Hub ("Still known by us old guys as The Senior Center," according to Larry and Steve) on Tuesday, October 10, from 1:30 to 3:00pm. They think a monthly meeting in the afternoon in Grand Marais is a great way to start. They'd like to know what you think.
If you’ve already begun writing down your stories, bring them along to this first gathering to share if you’d like.
Please let Larry or Steve know if you’ll be attending, if you’re interested and can’t attend, or if you just have some thoughts about "Writing about your life."
