Cook County Coop – Good Harbor Hill Programs

  • Good Harbor Hill Scholarship
    • Assists income-eligible applicants with the cost of becoming a Coop member
    • Participants pay at least $12 annually toward the cost of Coop membership; the Coop will cover the rest
    • Must apply for the program for the first time in person
    • Must re-apply for the program each year, either in person or online

    Good Harbor Hill Discount

    • 10% off most Coop purchases for income-eligible applicants
    • Discount excludes co+op basics, co+op deals and special orders (which are already discounted)
    • May be combined with the Good Harbor Hill Scholarship (above)
    • Must apply for the program for the first time in person
    • Must re-apply for the program each year, either in person or online

    Recipients of one or more of these programs qualify for the Good Harbor Hill Scholarship and Discount:

    • Emergency Assistance Program
    • Section 8 Housing
    • Medicaid
    • SNAP/EBT
    • Social Security Disability
    • WIC

Grand Marais/Cook County Food Shelf (AEOA)

  • Fresh and shelf-stable food, plus two vouchers for dried goods and produce redeemable in Grand Marais grocery stores
  • For those in crisis or within income guidelines
  • Open every Monday 3-5pm and 1st Wednesday of the month 4:30-6:30pm
  • Register on site during distribution hours

Grand Portage Food Distribution Program

  • Participating households receive a montly food package to help them maintain a nutritionally balanced diet
  • Foods offered may include canned and packaged food, frozen food, specialty, traditional and seasonal items
  • Food package pick-up at 101 Store Road

Mobile Food Pantry Program

  • Monthly supply of supplemental nutrious food for those who are income-eligible or who are in crisis
  • Availability varies, but food package may include cereal, pasta, brown or white rice, protein (chicken, beef, tuna, or peanut butter), milk, cheese, fruits and vegetables
  • Distribution fourth Wednesday of the month - rain or shine
  • Register at the time of food pickup - be ready to provide basic information such as name, address, number of people in the household and household income
  • Make sure your vehicle has capacity for 1-2 boxes of food (limit 4 households per vehicle)

Power of Produce Program

  • Income-eligible adults 65+ (and children age 4-12) receive tokens to purchase fresh produce at the Grand Marais Farmer’s Market each week beginning mid-July
  • Visit the market welcome booth to sign up and receive tokens
  • All tokens may be spent each week or saved for a later market in the same year   
  • Sponsored by the Oral Health Task Force and Empty Bowls

  • Market open from mid-June to mid-October

Nutrition for Seniors Program – Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)

  • Formerly known as Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors (NAPS)
  • Food packages with shelf-stable foods, including grains, fruits, vegetables, protein and dairy
  • For people aged 60 and older who meet income guidelines
  • Available for pickup the fourth Wednesday of each month, 1:30-2:00pm
  • Must be approved for the program before picking up food

  • Support to help stretch household food budget
  • For Minnesotans who meet income guidelines
  • Funds are placed into an EBT card (similar to a debit card) which can be used at any store displaying a poster or sign that reads: “We Accept EBT”
